This is the third part of a series of books on the eminent Kashmiri Pandits of the past. Dr, Sharga has amassed a wealth of information on his subjects and has his own peculiar style of presentation where history, biography, legend and family memory get blended into a heady cocktail.
The third volume has twenty personalities who include poets, politicians, artists and spiritual figures. Some of them worked in positions of authority as ministers, police officers and lawyers. Important persons included are Dr. Jagat Mohini Thusoo, Pt. Braj Kumar Nehru, Prof. Rattan Parimoo, Lalleshwari and Sri Karunamayi Ma Ammaji.
Dr. Sharga has analyzed the reasons for the success of so many Kashmiri Pandits in reaching high positions. They concentrated on certain areas like Delhi, Lahore, U.P.and Rajasthan.During the Mughal rule, they moved forward on the strength of their command over Persian and Arabic and the ability to write poetry. Dr. Sharga has also inherited a love for poetry and ends each presentation with a Hindi or Urdu couplet.
Dr. Sharga's effort would have been more impressive if he had taken personalities of a certain historical period together or classified them on some basis. Even so, he has rendered yeoman's service to the community by assembling all the details that throw such intense light on the lives of individual members of the biradari.
