Kashmiri is possibly the only language that does not have a full-fledged journal of its own. Stories that are published in book form alone can reach the avid readers.
Harda Vav is a collection of eleven short stories by Dr. Roop Krishen Bhat. Most of the stories portray the problems faced by displaced families. At the same time, there is an attempt to apply the balm of nostalgic memories of happier days on the wounds of the present. Most of the characters wish to smell the native soil of Kashmir once more and live again in their old houses and talk to their ancient neighbours about inconsequential things.
The story ' Patta' is most impressive. Kashmiris today are like the faded leaves buffeted hither and thither by autumn winds. This is not only a story; it poses a question that demands an answer.
Bhat's stories have a basic simplicity and truth about them. They are written in the everyday language that we use in our households. There is no attempt to superimpose anything artificial. He has been successful in conveying his sentiments to the reader.
