| Kailash Mehra |
Kailash Mehra is referred to variously as ‘ Lata Mangeshkar of Jammu and Kashmir’, ‘ Swar Samragyi’, ‘Kashmir Kokila’, ‘Mallika-e-Ghazal’, ‘Mehboob Awami Fankar’ and so on.
She was born in a Dogra family and married into a Kashmiri household. Pt. Swarup Nath Sapru discovered her enormous talent, when she was only ten years of age. Later, Pt. Shambhu Nath Sopori and Pt Bhajan Sopori developed her talent.
Kailash is a post-graduate in music from Prayag Sangeet Samiti and the Punjab University. She has taught music in various educational institutions of J&K.
She has sung to audiences around the country and also in places abroad like London and Dubai. She has lent her voice to many teleserials and TV films. She is totally wedded to classical music and is proud of the musical heritage of Kashmir.
