| Neerja Pandit |
Neerja Pandit was born in Pampore in the Kashmir valley. After her early schooling in Kashmir, she obtained an M.A. in Music from the Punjab University. She learnt classical music from Pt. Shambhu Nath Sopori and Pt. Bhajan Sopori.
Later, she was trained by the famous sarangi player Dhruv Ghosh.She learnt the art of playback singing from Shambhu Sen.
Neerja’s fame spread right from her childhood through the AIR and Doordarshan Kendras of Srinagar. She sang the theme songs for Tere Mere Sapne, Chaahat aur Nafrat, Shapath, Sarhad, Nurjahan, Gul Gulshan Gulfam and other such TV serials.
Shatrughan Sinha released her musical cassette ‘Chashma Bo Vandai’ based on the poetry of Bhagyavani, under the music direction of Bhajan Sopori.
